Buell Lineup

Buell Lineup

The motorcycle industry has no shortage of companies that produce a wide variety of bikes. Some of these companies are known all over the world, such as Suzuki and Kawasaki, but others are known more by a niche group of riders and motorcycle enthusiasts. One company that you may or may not have heard of is Buell Motorcycles.

Buell Motorcycles was founded by Erik Buell, who was a former engineer for Harley-Davidson, in 1983. Then the larger company acquired 49% of Buell in 1993 before taking full ownership in 2003. Harley-Davidson discontinued the line of bikes from Buell in 2009 because of their desire to focus more on their brand.

That same year, Erik Buell announced a new company that would produce race-only bikes, namely Erik Buell Racing. However, Buell Motorcycles announced their return to producing motorcycles in February 2021. They planned to use the platforms developed under Erik Buell Racing to add to their model lineup.

Although Buell Motorcycles has a checkered past, they've produced some pretty awesome bikes over the years. Sure, they're not as well known as many other companies, but their designs can truly stand up to some of the bigger competition out there.

Without further ado, we present to you three of the top productions from Buell Motorcycles.

The Buell XB12R Firebolt Is Legendary

One of Buell's bikes that gained a solid following was the XB12R Firebolt. This two-wheeled speed demon was initially manufactured in 2004 and sported a design that was unique to Buell but one that any motorcycle rider would appreciate. It was discontinued in 2010, but thankfully there are plenty on the used market today.

This sleek beauty by Buell has a capacity of 1203 cc by 73 cubic inches and is powered by a V-twin, four-stroke engine. It has a pushrod actuated overhead valve as well as hydraulic self-adjusting lifters. In terms of power, it can reach 103 hp at 6,000 rpm. The transmission on this machine has five speeds altogether.

This powerful bike from Buell has a top speed of 155 mph, according to motorcyclespecs.co. For torque, it has a max of 84 ft-lbs at 6,000 rpm. Notably, the Buell XB12R Firebolt only takes 11.4 seconds to travel a quarter of a mile, which is pretty fantastic.

Regardless of the model year, the Buell XB12R Firebolt is an all-around great bike. It comes in a variety of colors with striking designs, it's fast, and it's also a great option if you're looking to advance past the starter phase of motorcycling.

The Buell XB12S Lightning Strikes Gold

Another of Buell's coolest productions is the XB12S Lightning. This bike was produced from 2003 to 2009, and it remains a favorite among many riders. Overall, the Lighting is fairly similar to the Firebolt in terms of specs. It's powered by an 8v V-twin 5 speed engine. The Buell Lightning has a max power of 100 hp at 6,600 rpm and a torque of 81 ft-lb at 6,000 rpm.

The top speed for this beauty is 145 mph, and it takes just 11.2 seconds to go a full quarter of a mile. While this isn't the fastest bike on the road by a long shot, it's still a great choice for someone who wants to have a little fun on the roads without being overwhelmed.

In terms of appearance, this offering from Buell resembles a traditional street bike in many ways. However, there is something bold about its design. It appears that all of its features are fairly enhanced in terms of size, which makes this bike even more of a monster. It's easy to see why this is one of Buell's most popular bikes.

The Buell 1190RX Is A Real Star

Perhaps one of the most well-known, if not the most, is the Buell 1190RX. This sport bike was produced in 2014 under the Erick Buell Racing brand. In fact, this was the first creation from the small American brand. This beast had a price tag of almost $40,000 in its day.

The Buell 1190RX is powered by a four-stroke r72 degree V-Twin engine. It has a max power of 185 hp at 10,600 rpm. This beauty has a max torque of 101.6 ft-lbs at 8,200 rpm. The transmission has six speeds, unlike the other two options from Buell we featured in this article.

The 1190RX is an extremely beautiful bike with a design that's compact despite the bike's size. It also comes in vibrant colors, and it distinguishes itself from the pack enough to stand out on the streets.

Riders can have a great deal of fun with this one, and while not a beginner bike, it is super approachable for motorcyclists of varying experience levels. With Buell is making a comeback, this is one of the first bikes they've brought back to the market as a new model and we've got to say it's a pretty fitting choice.

Buell Is Back

Via: Facebook

Buell is truly deserving of the legacy they've built over the years. Buell have struggled in a market dominated by the "big guys", but their founder, Erik Buell, never gave up.

Now, they're producing bikes again. We think companies like Buell are important because they can oftentimes design products with more passion and pride than the bigger names. Larger companies tend to focus on reaching the masses, which means their offerings are sometimes more generic. We look forward to seeing what the brand produces in the future.
